ESPN is Giving Numbers Never Lie a Complete Overhaul with Two New Stars
Numbers Never Lie, the ESPN afternoon show initially centered around Charissa Thompson and Michael Smith, is getting an overhaul, according to sources. As ratings for the show sagged in the Spring, ESPN decided to shuffle the cast. Thompson, a rising star at the Network, was moved over to SportsNation to replace the departed Michelle Beadle. The show’s smart premise – centered around stats, trends and point spreads – is being tweaked into more of a debate format because there just isn’t enough debate on ESPN. Sound like First Take in the afternoons? That’s the rumbling in Bristol.
According to sources, here’s the new trio, which will be rolled out at some point later this summer: Michael Smith will host, and the debaters will be Jalen Rose (you’ll be seeing lots of him on the Worldwide Leader between his new Gameday gig and the college hoops games he’ll be announcing) and former NFL player Hugh Douglas.
Hopefully, when the new show rolls out, Douglas will talk at length about the time he fought Terrell Owens in Philly.

Numbers Never Lie: Nobody Actually Watches

i’ve never heard of this show, but it sounds absolutely horrible.
at least now they are producing more shows geared towards airports and corporate lunch rooms.

Hmm ok…
Uh oh…
Sweet jesus.

I’ve never seen the show, but thought it was some type of debate between a numbers guy and a “regular guy”. Am I way off? Jalen and Douglas don’t strike me as numbers guys.

Ben, can we use any of this? These debate things are GOLD.

Wasn’t Aaron Schatz supposed to be on that show? Must have realized people would rather discuss quarterback toughness than the real reasons teams win games

So who’s going to be bringing the numbers??
June 22nd, 2012 at 1:41 PM
Oh wonderful. Hugh is such a moron.

I think if we put a web series together, it would get picked up nationally after about 4 episodes.

I enjoy information about shows no one watches.

Man, ESPN seems horrible.

I assume that at the end of the memo they said they were moving NFL matchup to ESPN Ocho to air at 4:00 AM EST on Mondays.

Thompson, a rising star at the Network
Yeah, the only way up is probably through Berman’s legs. Isn’t that how it works for vapid bimbos?

ESPN has plenty of smart, talented numbers guys who could break down trends and stats in a fascinating way. So they bring in two ex jocks and turn it into a debate show?

C’mon man, dude has an advance degree.

This is an example of ESPN being burned by assuming a popular basis for a show based on the internet. The sports numbers love is much more prevalent on the internet than it is outside of that realm.

Agree. The general television-watching (ESPN)public is full of moutbreathers.
June 22nd, 2012 at 4:10 PM
That may be true, but unfortunately for the show, it isn’t full of mouthbreathers whose idea of a sports conversation is regurgitating one stat after another.

Three black dudes screaming at the tops of their lungs to be heard over each other….Oh joy….

Analysis = moutbreathing. Good to know.

Never heard of the show, I’m sure it has a lot of diversity though

For all of you who HAVE NOT seen the show and are sports fans, I suggest you sit down and watch the half hour that it is. With the revamp and Jalen, and Hugh as full time co-hosts, it is awesome!!! I find myself glued to the tv to see what they are going to say next and then find out the number..it is not as good as say PTI or Sports nation but it is definitely worth watching if you are a true sports fan.
